A *Kintsugi*-repaired piece is not ready for daily use immediately upon completion. Since natural *Urushi* lacquer cures slowly over time, these objects require a little extra tenderness and care.
Here is a guide on how to care for your *Kintsugi* ware to ensure its beauty lasts for generations.
Phase 1: Admire for the first 2–3 months
The finish of *Kintsugi* stabilizes with time. Rather than using it immediately, we recommend **enjoying it as a decorative piece for the first two to three months**.
Take this time to appreciate the “landscape” of the repair and let the lacquer reach its full strength.
No Microwaves
Please never place *Kintsugi* ware in a microwave.
Because of the gold or silver metallic powder, **it will cause sparks and damage the piece**. Additionally, the heat can cause the lacquer to contract and peel.
No Dishwashers
Dishwashers must be avoided at all costs.
- High water pressure
- High-temperature drying cycles
Both of these **can cause the delicate gold dust and lacquer to flake off**.
Hand Wash Only (No Soaking)
Treat your *Kintsugi* ware with the same respect as traditional lacquerware.
When it’s time to clean, **gentle and prompt washing is key**.
- Rinse with room temperature or lukewarm water.
- Wash gently with a soft sponge.
- Mild dish soap is perfectly fine to use.
*Note: Avoid leaving the piece submerged in water for long periods.*
Do Not Dry Upside Down
Drying a vessel face-down allows water to pool around the rim, which **can lead to the lacquer peeling**.
After washing:
- Gently shake off excess water.
- Immediately wipe dry with a soft cloth.
This simple step ensures the longevity of the repair.
In Case of Future Damage
Should the lacquer ever peel or the piece break again, do not worry.
It can always be repaired once more. Please keep any fragments or flakes and contact us for restoration.
Kintsugi: An Object to Be Nurtured
*Kintsugi* ware is more than just tableware. It is a living presence that changes over time and “grows” alongside its owner.
By treating it with just a little extra care, its beauty
