I visited the exhibition “Chambers of Wonder: We Shall Vanish — Yasumasa Morimura, Kenji Yanobe, Miwa Yanagi” at Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka.
I was especially drawn to the contemporary artworks using urushi lacquer.
Seeing lacquer not only as a traditional craft material, but also as a medium for contemporary art, made me feel once again how rich and fascinating Japanese artistic expression can be.
Being able to encounter this kind of work is one of the great pleasures of staying in Japan.
While I am here, I want to see, feel, and learn from as many things as possible.
